Thursday, 14 January 2010

13,000 scouts and leaders to celebrate the end of a successful jamboree

Major General Michael Jeffrey, National President of Scouts Australia will officially close the 22nd Australian Jamboree 2010 on Thursday 14 January 2010 at 7:00 p.m. (EST). The closing ceremony will be held at Cataract Scout Park in Sydney, NSW.

More than 13,000 Scouts, leaders and volunteers will be joined by Major General Michael Jeffrey and representatives from Scouts at Cataract Scout Park.

The closing ceremony will be broadcast live through YouTube, allowing scouts’ family and friends as well as international scouts to watch the action for the first time in Australian Jamboree history. It is expected almost 5,000 people will be watching the online stream.

Entertainment for the evening will see high profile bands Art vs Science and My Future Lies perform for over 10,000 Scouts who will surely get on their feet for these great acts.

“The closing ceremony is a perfect way to wrap up 10 days of fun, new adventures and friendships. Art vs Science will surely lift the energy of over 10,000 scouts who are probably running close to empty, after all the fun activities they have participated in during the jamboree,” says Grant De Fries, Camp Chief.

Lead singer of My Future Lies, Lukey Lukee said ‘we’ve been really excited about being part of such a great event. We realise the importance of Scouts and the way this interacts with the community. We have a really energetic set planned for AJ2010 so expect to see a huge buzz coming from the closing ceremony. It is great for independent music and for us to share our passion with like minded people.’

“The scouts have had the opportunity to mix with scouts from all over Australia and 23 different countries. The closing ceremony is a nice way for them to enjoy each other’s company before heading home and a good opportunity to say goodbye to new friends made,” says Camp Chief De Fries.

Over 1,000,000 working hours have been volunteered during the jamboree, many giving up their summer holidays to help support the 22nd Australian Jamboree.

“This year’s Australian Scout Jamboree has been a great success. Recognition needs to be given to the hundreds of volunteers and troop leaders who have given up their time to make this happen. The closing ceremony is also a celebration of their hard work and efforts,” says Camp Chief De Fries.
