Dates
Move in dates for AJ2010 will commence on January 2nd, 2010 with the Official Opening Ceremony on the evening of the 4th. Move out will commence immediately after the Official Closing Ceremony in the evening of January 14th and conclude on Friday the 15th.
Program
The jam-packed program for AJ2010 includes 9 huge days of activities plus spectacular Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
There are tons of onsite activities for the Scouts to take part in over the 9 days. The activities will mostly run in half-day blocks, apart from the fantastic range of offsite activities, which will be whole-day events.
Market Day
A Market Day at an Australian Jamboree?! What’s this, you say? Well, Market Day is the one of the few days in this tightly-packed, fun-filled 2 weeks where the normal activities do not run. Instead, each Scout is given special Jamboree dollars, which they can use to buy various goods and services. What goods and services? Troops are responsible for using their ingenuity and creativity to come up something that a Scout may be willing to part with their valuable Jamboree dollars for. Examples of items for sale at previous Market Days include:
- Hugs
- Donuts
- Crazy hair coloring
- And much, much more…
At the end of the day, each Troop counts up the money they have made from selling their products. To top off the pride and sense of achievement gained on successfully inventing, marketing and selling their own product, an added bonus is that the Troop with the most money wins a fabulous prize! Stay tuned for more info what this prize will be at AJ2010…
Contingents
All Contingents (except the NSW Contingent) will move in to the site on 3 January 2010. The NSW Contingent will move in earlier on 2 January 2010.
At the end of AJ2010, all Contingents will move out on the 15 January 2010.
Moving in and out of the Jamboree site is a massive logistical exercise involving hundreds of buses all coordinated to drop off and pick up thousands of people and can easily take all day. So, to use a cliché, ‘be prepared’ by bringing something to entertain yourself with whilst traveling, being patient whilst being marshaled on and off buses, and being understanding and cooperative with leaders and Venturers who will be trying their best to settle you in as quickly as they can once you arrive.
