Eligibility
The Jamboree is a camp for Scouts aged between 11 and 14 years of age. In addition to the 9,000 + Scouts expected to attend the Jamboree, there are also thousands of Leaders and Junior Service Leaders who attend to help run the Jamboree.
There are three age brackets/Scout member types eligible to attend:
- Scouts (10-14 years of age)
- Venturers, who attend as Junior Service Leaders (16-18 years of age)
- Leaders & Rovers (18+ years of age)
AJ2010 requirements
Scouts
To attend, a Scout must:
- Be an invested Scout
- Have reached Pioneer level in their badge work
- Have camped ten (10) nights under canvas with three (3) of those nights being consecutive
- Have approval from their Group Leader or Leader in Charge
- Have approval from their Regional Commissioner of Scouts and their Contingent Leader
- Not have had their 15th birthday before the 4 January 2010
Junior Service Leaders (Venturers)
Youth members attending the Jamboree as a Junior Service Leader are required to participate in a service role and work each day in their allocated activity. Junior Service Leaders will receive two (2) days off (not consecutive) during the Jamboree.
The selection criteria for JSLs include:
- Registered as a Venturer Scout for a minimum of one year and be at least 16 years of age at the beginning of the Jamboree, and no more than 18 years by the end of the Jamboree.
- Achieved the Venturing Skills Award.
- Completed the Unit Management Course and the Leadership Course or a
minimum of one activity under each Activity Area. - Recommended by both Unit Council and Venturer Leader as being of excellent
character and able to provide a role model to Scouts. - Have a high level of communication skills.
- Have a wide experience of Venturer activities.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the Venturer Award Scheme.
- Have a desire to provide service to Scouts.
