Visitors & Future Scout Day at AJ2010
Saturday 9th January will be a fantastic day at AJ2010, and it is also the day when your family and friends can visit you and join in some of the fun. As well as being the day when we host Joeys and Cub Scouts, and let them have a taste of what Scouts do, it is also Market Day, where all kinds of fun is had by Scouts selling a variety of things to each other and visitors. All visitors must register to attend before Friday November 27th. For more information and to apply to visit look at our visitors page.
Water Activity is now on SYDNEY HARBOUR!!
We are so excited with this fantastic news…… AJ2010 have been lucky enough to secure Clifton Gardens at Chowder Bay on beautiful Sydney Harbour as our new offsite Water Activity venue. You will able to swim, sail, canoe and go on a ferry ride, plus some other surprises will be in store for you as well. Don’t miss out on your chance to enjoy the best Harbour in the world!
Bushfire Safety at AJ2010
As part of our program of bushfire safety at Cataract Scout Park, we have been working closely with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS). During September, the RFS had a major training exercise around the edges of Cataract Scout Park, with over 300 firefighters from up to 50 RFS Brigades, and 100 Fire Trucks in attendance. During the exercise they did a major hazard reduction burn, clearing 30 hectares of bush around the park boundaries. They started the burn about 300 metres outside our fence line, so you will still see the beautiful bushlands from your tent, knowing there is a considerable firebreak beyond. We will have a NSW Rural Fire Service Station manned 24 hours a day on site at the Jamboree, so make sure you go and meet them all and get a photo standing next to their truck while you’re at AJ2010. We have also been working for many months not only with the RFS, but in conjunction with the NSW Ambulance Service, NSW State Emergency Service and NSW Police Force, to train and plan for any issues we may face during the Jamboree. We will also have Ambulance and Police Officers on duty based at the Jamboree, 24 hours a day, to make sure we are all well looked after. Many of the emergency services officers are also Scout Leaders, so make sure you catch up with them too at AJ2010, if you’re interested in a career in the emergency services I am sure they can give you some good advice.
Message from "Doc"
We will also have a great team of Medical personnel at the Jamboree, led by our Director of Medical Services, Dr. Allan Kirkpatrick. There will be First Aid posts around each sub-camp and other parts of the site, as well as a Medical Centre and Hospital, staffed by Doctors and Nurses. We hope you don’t need to use all of this, but it’s there so we can take the best care possible of everyone, just in case.
Doc has suggested that if you are on medications that you approach your local pharmacy and have them packed in a Webster Pack. For those not familiar with them they are a blister pack which divide the medications into times and days. The advantage of this package is that it is immediately obvious if a dose has been taken and there are no loose packets of pills to get mislaid.
This is a good idea for leaders as well and the cost is very modest (less than $5).
Watch out for Doc’s daily health and hygiene tips during the Jamboree, particularly the ones on JNN-TV.

Wanted – Day Workers
We have been lucky enough to have the best attendance at an Australian Jamboree for some years at AJ2010, and are looking for more Leaders and Rovers to attend as Day Workers to help make the Jamboree a lot of fun for everyone. If you know any leaders or Rovers who can’t get the full time off work but who would like to attend for one or a few days, please have them refer to our website. Day workers will also need to apply online to attend and they will find a link on that page to apply.
Service Leaders
Our Adult Resources team is working hard on allocating Service Leaders to all the roles available, and are trying as much as possible to give you your first or second preference if possible. They expect to have the roles allocated over the next few weeks, so you should know of your role in the next month or so.
Internet Cafes and Leader Business Centre
At AJ2010 we will have an Internet Café on each subcamp, plus a Leader Business Centre in The Marketplace. Each attendee will receive 60 minutes of free Internet time for the Jamboree, and once that is use up, you may buy extra time for $5 per hour, so that you can e-mail your friends and family. The Internet Café’s will be closely supervised by Leaders, and we have a range of measures to ensure safe web browsing, and ensure the rules of conduct are obeyed. Leaders who need to attend to their business will be able to use their laptop or one of our computers, and use other facilities such as fax and photocopier/printer if required for a nominal fee. The hours of opening and rules of operation will be available closer to the Jamboree. Internet Café’s will close for Youth Members during certain parts of the day and at night well before Scouts need to return to camp for the night.
JNN – Jamboree News Network
Our Jamboree Media Team is gearing up to keep you and everyone at home informed of what is happening at the Jamboree. We will have a JNN Daily Newspaper, JNN – FM Radio Station, and JNN – TV available on the Internet and at spots such as the Frat Tents, Arena and Video Activity Base. You will have heaps of opportunities to be famous not only at the Jamboree – but at home as well. Also make sure your leaders bring an FM Radio along to hear all the music, news and competitions.
We will be putting images from the Jamboree, Daily electronic versions of the Newspaper, and JNN-TV up on our Official AJ2010 Website – www.ScoutsAJ2010.com so make sure you tell your families to look at the Jamboree Website every day for up to date news and action.
We are looking for stories now, to start putting together on your troop! If you have a story or photos you would like to share, contact jnn@scoutsaj2010.com and we will try and use everything that you contribute. Also during the Jamboree you will be able to contribute stories by writing them at the Internet Café and also we will have loan cameras available for you to record your day at the Jamboree, we will use the photos if we can and give you a disc containing your photos. The Video Activity base will not only teach you how to make a video, but will also load you a camera to take a movie of your patrol’s activities at the Jamboree. You might end up on JNN – TV or on the Big screen in the Arena! There are a limited number of cameras and loan periods will be short enough to allow as many as possible to use them.
